SustainFood Entrepreneurship Conversations: Building a Culture of Innovation & Entrepreneurship: A Multi-Level Approach
Thursday November 21, 2024 9:00am - 10:00am EST
A university culture of innovation and entrepreneurship benefits students, faculty, and the institution. However, building such a culture can be difficult, given limited resources and varied stakeholders. We propose a multi-level approach, ranging from one-off workshops to multi-day events to course projects to curricular structures. We describe our experiences in a variety of contexts, and share lessons learned and ideas for future directions.

PSU Biotech Boardroom Pitch
Friday November 22, 2024 2:00pm - 4:00pm EST
Have you ever wondered what SDGs are?  If you have heard of them before how can you incorporate them in E-ship courses? The PSU Biotech Boardroom Pitch competition will show you how undergraduate and graduate students from different majors and colleges across the University came together as teams in the microbial biotechnology course: Biotc/Micrb 416 offered by the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department in the Eberly College of Science.

Students over the course of the semester started with identifying one or more of the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. They then applied their hard skills in the natural and physical sciences along with soft skills to find solutions. The proposed solutions were then presented in individual elevator pitches with the intent to form teams of people with similar ideas and solutions.

The next steps were two warm-up pitches named PSU Biotech Associate and PSU Biotech Supervisor before their final pitch: PSU Biotech Boardroom. Throughout the semester, after the team formation, students were accompanied by alumni mentors and judges from industry. The official judging by alumni from industry will occur on November 17 between 2:30 and 4:00 pm. Time permitting 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced.
